Magenta Moon

Magenta Moon is a Los Angeles-based indie rock project led by Elaina Whitesell on vocals and bass and Joey Petrarca on guitar and vocals. The duo blends indie rock, psychedelic pop, surf influences, R&B, jazz, and electronic textures into music that feels melodic, cinematic, and slightly surreal.

Elaina and Joey met in Boston before eventually relocating to Los Angeles, bringing both a creative partnership and personal relationship into the project. Their music developed around a shared interest in strong songwriting, atmosphere, visual storytelling, and live performance that feels more like an experience than a standard rock show.

Magenta Moon’s earlier releases include the albums “Rapid When It Happens” and “I Brushed My Teeth; Let’s Make Love,” followed by singles including “Liquid Heaven,” “Perceive Yourself,” “Move Me,” “More,” “Red Again,” “Pick Up,” “You Like Me,” “All The Doors,” “Twenty Sixteen,” and “I Came Here To Tell You.” Across those releases, the band has continued moving between intimacy, dark romance, groove, and expansive pop-rock arrangements.

Their live presentation is an important part of the project. Magenta Moon has performed extensively throughout Southern California at venues including The Mint, the Viper Room, Hotel Café, Whisky A Go-Go, El Cid, and The Troubadour, while also appearing at festivals and showcases including NextFest LA and Echo Park Rising.

Onstage, the duo often expands into a fuller ensemble with drums, keys, and violin, creating a larger and more theatrical sound. Their shows incorporate storytelling and visual elements alongside the music, reinforcing the sense that Magenta Moon is building a world around each performance rather than simply reproducing studio recordings.

At the center of Magenta Moon is contrast: romantic but strange, polished but playful, intimate but theatrical. Their goal is to create music that feels transportive — something melodic and emotionally direct, but still capable of taking listeners somewhere unexpected.
