BAZERK is a Los Angeles-based band known for blending funk, rock, metal, and hip hop into a high-energy sound built around groove, heavy riffs, and explosive live performance. Led by frontman Zu, the group developed its identity around pushing past genre boundaries rather than staying inside a single style.
A major turning point came in 2005, when Zu was encouraged by Prince to be more expansive and unconventional with his hip hop approach. That advice helped shape the direction of BAZERK, bringing metal and rock influences into the mix alongside funk and rap to create the hybrid sound that became central to the band.
BAZERK has built its reputation through extensive live performance across Southern California and the West Coast. Over the years, the band has appeared on bills with artists including Prince, George Clinton, Ludacris, KRS-One, 311, Wu-Tang Clan, Fishbone, and The Black Eyed Peas, while performing at Los Angeles-area venues including the House of Blues, the Roxy Theatre, the Queen Mary, and Boardner’s.
The band has also collaborated with artists including George Clinton and Angelo Moore of Fishbone. Those connections reflect BAZERK’s place at the intersection of funk, rock, hip hop, and alternative music — scenes that have always informed the band’s sound without fully defining it.
BAZERK’s catalog includes the album “Yall Famous for Nothing,” continuing the group’s mix of aggressive rhythms, funk-driven energy, rap delivery, and rock instrumentation. Their live video “Get It End” received recognition from the Akademia Music Awards, adding to a history that also includes numerous Battle of the Bands wins around Los Angeles.
At the center of BAZERK is a simple philosophy: stay unpredictable, keep the energy high, and never let genre rules dictate what the music is allowed to become.
